Picture yourself in a crowd of 1.7 Million people. Clap… Clap … Clap. This is the sound of over 3 million hands striking each other to the same beat. Clap… Clap … Clap. You look up over the sea of people and strain to see Paul Van Dyk and Dr. Motte on the decks. Clap… Clap … Clap. Their hands clapping together; their action reflected amongst the vast masses of party goers. In that moment, you feel insignificant, one star amongst a universe of infinity, yet simultaneously understanding how interconnected we all are. Together, Clap… Clap … Clap. The sound finally drowns out the millions of watts of bass pumping through the Tier Gardens of Berlin. You have arrived at Love Parade, and you understand that beyond the ridiculous façade of people's bright clothes, the loud music and an ocean of seemingly lost souls, in this moment, you are able to manifest the interconnectedness which often eludes your daily life.
Moments like these are what so many of us seek. I found this moment for the first time in the summer of 2000. I was fortunate enough to take a summer vacation traveling to Birmingham England, where the Gatecrasher Summer Sound System Festival was held. Next, I went to Ibiza and then Holland, where I finally connected with my childhood best friend to trek into to the heart of Berlin for Loveparade.
I share this experience with you because it is this moment that forever changed my life. It is this moment that acted as a catalyst for a journey that would take me 10 years to get to where I am now. And where am I now you ask….?
As I progressed on this Journey, I came to realize how ethereal these moments really are. They require an immense amount of time, money and planning to recreate, but once they blossom, they quickly wither into the past. There in was born a need to capture the experience of my travels, document them and share them through a medium whereby all of you can vicariously live them as well.
In scouring the internet and YouTube in particular, I noticed that there were many videos that people had posted of their travels to festivals around the world. In viewing these videos, I felt inspired to make a trip to some far off country, to see what that festival was like. However, in many cases, the quality of the video and sound was very poor. My intent is to create as much of a Total Immersion as possible, allowing the kind of inspiration one can glean out of allowing themselves to flow into the experiences that I capture. Whether it simply becomes internet entertainment or a call to arms to make your own journey, documenting this is something I do out of my passion for music, traveling and to soak into the moment of Now and to share that moment with you.
I will not be carrying around an expensive and heavy HD camera with a full sound crew and entourage of assistants. To do so would defeat the purpose of capturing my experience, as I would suddenly turn into a camera man and not someone like you going to festivals in Europe.
HD Video and HiFi Audio
What I will do is use the highest quality portable HD video recorders and high fidelity microphones to capture key portions of DJ's sets. Shot from vantages that will immerse you into the moment as much as possible. These videos will be made available on InternationalClubber.co.uk and the QuantumGroove YouTube channel.
Tweet the night away….
I intend to use Twitter to provide live updates of my journey. I am sure there will be some interesting unforeseen moments as I travel through 6 different countries to get to 4 music festivals in 3 weekends and I will be sure to keep you up to date, in real time, on all of these pleasant surprises and unexpected pit falls. Follow me: twitter.com/intclubber.
Are "They" like me?
An aspect that makes traveling to new countries so fun is being able to interact with people whom come from different cultures. In general, one of the best places to meet people is at parties as they are already in a good mood and therefore open up more easily. Furthermore, at music festivals you are surrounded by people that are there to listen to the same kind of music you are there to listen to, thereby establishing a shared interest and talking point. To me, this makes music festivals an ideal place to interact with people from different cultures.
In the interest of capturing this element of my journey, I will be interviewing attendees of the festivals I go to. I will ask them a wide variety of questions that reveal what clubbers and electronic music fans are like in different countries throughout Europe.
Post Script…
At the end of my adventure, I will provide an in depth review of my entire experience. I will review each festival in detail and provide insight into the dance/party culture of each country. You can also look forward to exclusive full length footage made available only on InternationalClubber.co.uk.
The best part, I'm taking you with me!
Using HD video cameras as your eyes, High Fidelity microphones as your ears, interviews and twitter as your ability to interact on the Journey and my in depth review of each festival and dance culture, I will re-create my journey on the internet to allow you to virtually experience my festival tour across Europe.

I vividly recall the nightclub created t-shirts in neon letters worn by the clubbers boldly stating, "It's 3 a.m. – Do you know where your children are?" The year was 1989 at the Lizard Lounge in Houston, Texas where I began my clubbing journey. Since then, I've traveled throughout the U.S. and into Europe experiencing the world's most famous DJs, clubs and festivals and look forward to new and exciting adventures.
