DJ PROFILE: MARTIN ROTH -
GERMANY
Martin Roth’s ascent through the ranks of trance music’s biggest stars has been somewhat
meteoric.
Picked by DJ-Mag as the upcoming edm hottie, quoted by Paul van Dyk as one of the artists
with the highest output in creativity and praised by Armin van Buuren for his modern
educated grown-up electro-trance, Martin Roth is currently entertaining the masses
worldwide with his more than unique style of fresh and sexy electronic dance music
without boundaries.
In production the 32 old Frankfurt born remixed and worked together with every major star
in the scene like Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren, Blank & Jones or Britpoppers Keane
releasing on dance-music-hottest labels like Vandit, Anjunabeats or armada and can look
back by now to a production record of more than 250 releases.
As a DJ he toured every continent from Superclubs like Godskitchen or Gallery to countless
major and minor spots in Asia, Australia, North and South America as well as Europe of
course.
The Frankfurt based DJ / producer made his breakthrough in the scene over two years ago
with a remake of Cygnus X’s classic track ‘The Orange Theme’, receiving huge coverage
from the major DJs.
Around the same time, Paul van Dyk discovered Martin’s track ‘Energize’, released under the
project name Technopunk and remixed it for his own label Vandit, resulting in a huge
amount of interest in Martin’s productions. Martin was then asked by Paul to remix another
track ‘Jose Amnesia vs. Serp – Second Day’ for his Vandit which went on to become another
very successful release.
Martin’s debut single on his own label Lunatique ‘Shockwaves’ received huge responses
from the leading DJs and Martin’s reputation as a seriously consistent producer continued to
grow.
In the past months his remixes for Paul van Dyk on ‘let go’ or Super8
& Tab on ‘Suru’ have pricked the ears of every major DJ, A&R guru and trance music follower across the globe and
currently it is hard to find a major play list without a MR production inside.
Continuing now in focusing finally more on his own projects, Martin is trying to take his
unique nu-trance electronic style to another level. First promos of his new single “off the world” on Lunatique and his so called “NuStyle EP”
have drawn big reactions so far & bagged “track of the week” status not only on ASOT. So
PVD acted first and picked it finally as his new favorite, signing it to his label
Vandit records.
Behind the DJ booth the same natural talent is purveyed. Using a combination of vinyl, CD
decks and Ableton Live allows Martin to blur the borders between DJing and live
performances, creating a unique experience for the crowds who travel to see him perform.
But Martin isn’t such a newbie as you might think. If you dig a little deeper you’ll find the
man behind many successful projects under many different aliases spanning many genres
confirmed his great versatility as an artist and accumulating over quarter of a million vinyl
sales over the past decade.
Fans of harder edged music will remember Martin as one of the key elements in the global
success of German label and Scot Project associated concept Overdose Recordings, where
Martin achieved admirable success under aliases including DJ Wag, Y.O.M.C, DJ Overdog and
Yakooza.
With his own name now set as his main pseudonym firmly established in DJ/producers elite,
Martin is looking forward to great success in 2008 with his upcoming first artist album in the
back (which is going to be released in early 2008 showing his variety and talent around the
genres of electronic music as a producer and DJ) - the future looks very promising…
“Ever since I got a bootleg mix of Keane I've been a big fan of Martin's sound. It's still trance but for
grown ups. A big sound for big floors!” - Armin Van Buuren
“Martin Roth is one of the few German artists with a continuous output of the highest level of
creativity.” - Paul van Dyk
